Overview

BowsFor nearly 20 years our focus has been on the student musician. Whether for an audition, participation in your school's orchestra program, festival/competition or a child's first private lesson, we have the right instrument for you. MCH is proud to offer a wide selection of high quality student model, step-up, advanced and professional level instruments at the best possible price. Our mantra of "get to the source," has served Hawaii well since we opened our doors in 1990 and we take pride in being able to offer you a superior instrument at a price that is right for you.

We carry instruments and bows of fine quality from the United States, Italy, China, France, Germany, Japan, and Eastern Europe. MCH also features instruments and bows from the workshops of gold and silver medal-winning master makers.

We do not list all the instruments that we have in-stock as many of these instruments are unique and stock is constantly changing, but we cordially invite you to visit our shop to try what we have on hand.

Please check out each instrument's page in the sidebar for a listing of starting prices for each category of instruments i.e. student, intermediate, advanced and professional as well as recommended accessories for each such as strings and shoulder rests. We also have an extensive inventory of sheet music and methods for the band instruments. Please see below for more information.

Trade-Ups

At MCH we have a generous trade-up policy for all of our orchestral string instruments. When students begin playing at a younger age, they need to start on a smaller sized instrument appropriate to their body dimensions. As they grow their instrument needs to grow with them. This is one of the reasons for our Trade-Up policy. Each time the student moves from one size to the next, 80% of your previous purchase will be applied to the purchase of your next instrument. For example, if you had purchased from us a ΒΌ violin at $350.00 and you want to trade up to a 1/2 size violin, $280.00 (i.e. 80% of $350) will be applied to the larger instrument.

Another reason for our Trade-Up policy is that customers often wish to improve the quality of their instrument.  The 80% Trade-Up policy applies here as well to bowed instruments and bows.  (It does NOT apply to cases, accessories and wind instruments).

Sheet Music

Each string orchestra program, especially middle school beginning string classes, use some sort of classroom method in addition to the music that they prepare for concerts each year. Private teachers also have their own favorite method books that they use, in addition to those teachers that teach via the Suzuki Method. Classroom method books are published for each individual instrument and are designed to be used by the entire class together. The exercises progress in difficulty the farther you get in the book and have sections in the book dedicated to instrument specific exercises. Individual method books such as the Suzuki books are most commonly used for private instruction or small group lessons Please see below for a list of the Classroom Methods and a short list of books that are a part of a longer series.
